UNDER CONSTRUCTION!

Since it has been quite a long time since we have been active, we are going to be Under Construction for a while - trying new fonts, designs, and updating our sidebar stuff. Hopefully we will get it how we like it soon so it won't change too much!

Also - Can someone tell me how to get rid of the giant gap below this notice - I cannot figure out how to do it - thanks!!

Uh oh!

So I am super busy today (and therefore not visiting like I wanted to) but I had to get this up - we are having a peeing issue. As in peeing on the bed. It is in an area where no one sleeps but it happened twice. I found it Saturday night and again on Sunday night. Not sure who it is but it is most likely either a kitten or maybe Lola or Kirzon. Less likely suspects are Virgil and Barney, though you never know. It even went into the mattress through the mattress cover - and it is a tempurpedic so it is foam - not fun to try and clean (I am going to use the hand attachment on the steamer, but for now have just been using the regular pet stain remover). With the kittens separate from the big cats today I think that will show if it is them or the big guys. If I have to keep them all out once the kittens are free for a while I will. I have a feliway plug in going right next to the bed (far from their litter). I have never had them pee on the bed before because they sleep there, which is why I think maybe the kittens had accidents during the day - they have been spending more time on the bed lately. I am not thrilled about it but honestly I am one of the rare few who can live with it. I needed a new fitted sheet anyway (mine was old and had gotten a hole but I kept it because it was so nice and soft now and I didn't want to part with it) and I have stuff to add to the laundry for the mattress cover. It just stinks that they had to do it not once but twice in two days! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I just wish I knew who did it!

Hi Amy....well you certainly have more cat experience than I do but my first impression is someone (older kitty) is either NOT happy or someone (younger kitties not yet neutered/spayed) are marking some serious territory. My experience is that kitties don't like change either. Do you have something new in your home? Good luck kitty p
is very hard to eliminate. I also know they don't like the smell of lemon/citrus. Maybe you can find some lemon scented detergent or something like Fabreeze that can be sprayed on linens.
Good luck

Separate the kittens back out. If the adults can't get in and the bed is still being peed on you know it's a kitten. Otherwise, you know it's one of the adults, and more likely a behavorial/territorial issue. Once you know which it is, you can go from there. You're just going to have to do process of elimination.

I agree with the others, but it is important to rule out any medical issues once you narrow it down.

One of our senior cats did this once when we adopted a new kitten - he actually did it WHEN we were in the bed, so we knew who it was! We were fortunate it only happened once - but it was definitely a marking thing. I agree with advice about separating kitens out - and if it's a kitten accident, it's almost easier to deal with because it's not a territorial issue.

Brian's right, too, about making sure none of the cats have a urinary tract problem.

P.S. I really like Biokleen Bac-Out Stain & Odor Eliminator for cleaning up cat pee! It smells like limes. My sis really likes Nature's Miracle.

Good luck, Amy; it looks like you've already got great advice from everyone, especially about checking medical issues once you discover who is doing it.

Having the same issue here, Amy, with our Maggie May. We have chalked it up to litter and litter box change. We had changed her to WBCL and got a booda dome. Apparently, she didn't like the idea as much as I did. We just switched her back to her old litter box and changed the litter to Dr. Esley's Cat Attract and added a feliway diffuser. Seems to be doing the job so far, but we're only a day into the switch.
Maybe you can try the kittens on Dr. Esley's Kitten Attract?? They sell it at PetSmart.
Good luck!

when i was verreh stressed and used to have accidents, my mommeh used a spray bottle of white vinegar and dish soap. you could try saturating the accident section of the mattress with that - just mix it up and pour it, instead of spraying because it will never get all the way through the dense foam like that. it will take a few days to dry but it works. my mommeh has a memory foam mattress too. after this happened, she actually got a clear shower curtain from the dollar store and put it under the mattress pad, to protect the memory foam, in case of more accidents. you could try that too until this stops. that way, even if someone does a woopsie on the bed again, it will not get through to your tempurpedic and you can just wash the sheets/pad.

Oh gosh! The only other time my kitties wet the bed was when they were really ill.

I resorted to using waterproof protective sheets, duvet cover, pillow covers. They really worked. Only the sheets (washable easily in the washing machine) got wet but the protective covers on the mattress, duvet and pillows worked a treat. Kind of the ones used for incontinence. They were very hard to find mind you - I had to resort to surfing hospital suppliers!

The first time my poor sick kitty wet the bed and it soaked through the mattress, I bought another one! Mattress that is!:-)

Good luck with your bedding. Here's hoping it's only a nervous thing and so temporary - once all the kitties are comfortable and happy - hopefully it'll all stop!

Take care

Well, Auntie Amy - that is a nightmare and personally I can't understand it as I ain't no bedwetter. Or never have been. We'll see how we get on when the new kitty arrives...well, I gotta show my prized status somehow. The Muttie woman is dreading it...maybe I'll just bitch at the wee one.

Ohhhhh, someone wet the bed!? We would NEVER do anything like that but Jelly Bean did it once...well, she wet the couch (AND poopied on it) because she didn't like the cat litter AND she didn't want to share litter boxes. Good luck figuring it out!

Here's my two cents worth -- being it isn't an on going thing I would think more on the medical side. Maybe someone is or is starting to not feel well....something to keep an eye on....I have heard of this happening if the litter box isn't cleaned out but knowing you that is not the problem....

Yeah- this a hard one. Kitty Psychology is in order, first is 'who done it.'
Good luck Amy.
