UNDER CONSTRUCTION!

Since it has been quite a long time since we have been active, we are going to be Under Construction for a while - trying new fonts, designs, and updating our sidebar stuff. Hopefully we will get it how we like it soon so it won't change too much!

Also - Can someone tell me how to get rid of the giant gap below this notice - I cannot figure out how to do it - thanks!!

Quick sickie update

Hi Everyone! So I wanted to do a quick update on our sickes. Trixie first - see last week her upper lip swelled up - first one side then the other (at first it seemed like the first one was better but then on further inspection I saw it was that the other side swelled, not that the first went down). You couldn't see it looking at her directly but if you looked at her from the chin up you could see it. So I talked to the vet and what most likely happend is either she got bopped in a wrestling match, or she bit her own lip (my guess is that one because it was both sides of her lip - and she rolls so much she sometimes rolls off the couch if I can't catch her fast enough, so I can totally see how that would happen).  So since it was early in the week (like Monday I think) I wasn't able to get her in til Saturday, and with her spay surgery this week (4/8) I wanted her to not need that rescheduled. He asked if we had any antibiotics left in the house, and since Kirzon is getting the amoxicillin for his mouth (compounded in an ear gel) we did have some extras of that (they can't make it isn super small amounts so there is usually a couple extra syringes of the stuff, and each syringe is 5 doses). He suggested trying that to see if it helped and if not she could come in Saturday. Well, on Wednesday she was already looking better and even Brad noticed it right away. Today she is normal and so she is doing good.

So at that time Lola was doing ok - she had diareha the weekend before, and had left me lots of little puddles all over her room. I stopped the canned food, got her some sensitive stomach dry and she seemed to improve. So I put her back on the canned, and it started again, so I took her off, but this time she didn't improve. She did go from lots of small puddles (like seriously overnight the first night there had to be 10) to fewer bigger ones. So I set her up to go to the vet on Saturday and she did good on the drive there and back (I was worried and had a lot of towels in the carrier that could be sacreficed if necessary). She didn't show anything in her stool sample (I didn't think she would since we haven't had anyone with any worms in almost a year) and she didn't have anything in her belly to be concerned with so we got some meds to help firm things up. I am still keeping her on the sensitive tummy dry and she is very good about the medicine. She did have a firmer movement yesterday - not perfect but a lot better, so that is good news. She isn't any more gassy than normal (she is the gassiest cat I have ever seen) so that is good, and she is still pretty snuggly with me, though she isn't coming down as much. She has also been peeing on the couch and I am not sure if that is because she isn't feeling good or if she is just crabby about something - I started adding the litter attractant to her box again and she is using it now, but I do have the couch in there covered just in case. Since it started at the same time as the tummy issues I am positive it is related (maybe she is mad I took her canned away - I still go see her even if I am not droping it off before work, because I don't want her to think I just forgot about her, and of course now she is getting the medicine, so maybe that is part of it - I wish she could talk and tell me!)

Anyway, that is the update for now. Everyone else is good. A few goopy eyes from Barney but he has his spring allergies so that is not a shock. And other than that it is all good.

I will be hoping to get some visiting in - probably minimal this week because of the review there will be managers here (everyone in teh company gets their review at the same time) and I am off Friday to do some things including taking Trixie for her spay surgery, so that means getting ready for her and taking care of her. But I will do a bit this week and plan to really catch up next week. I wish my manager had come in last week like planned - of course that didn't happen. I will be getting some better posts up, like the toy exchange, in the next couple days, but I wanted to do the sickie update first.

See you all later!!

Amy, your house is like ours...it's always something or somebody! Glad to hear that Trixie's lip is healing. Our Rupert has allergies too, poor guy has big crusty eye goopies.
Good luck with your review!

our GrammaTrixie used to have her lip swell alot too - mostly from rasslin with GrampaNorton. Must be a Trixie thing. MOL

I wanted to give a suggestion for Lola--perhaps you could add probiotics to her food (or mix with a little chicken baby food). They sell Fortiflora at the vets, but it's pricey, so you can buy a human brand instead from a health food store. Read the ingredients to make sure there is no milk added--you don't need to add to the problem.

It might help her gas problem too. Poor girl.

Wow...sounds like they have been keeping you busy running back and forth to the vet.

Glad Trixie's swollen lip seems to be getting better. Paws crossed there is not a reoccurance. Poor Lola! The probiotics idea is a good one...helps our Nuka who has a sensitive tummy. You can get it online for about $20 (for about 100meals worth)...but it IS expensive through the vet.

Hope the review committee recognizes and rewards your efforts.

I am so sorry to learn you have the sick ones. I save the antibiotics also for multi-cat use.

Purrayers going up for all of them now. You must need some down time for yourself with all of this caretaking!!!

For other folks reading this, check out my blog. There are some interesting stories there. I manage a homeless cat colony and a few foster cats.
