UNDER CONSTRUCTION!

Since it has been quite a long time since we have been active, we are going to be Under Construction for a while - trying new fonts, designs, and updating our sidebar stuff. Hopefully we will get it how we like it soon so it won't change too much!

Also - Can someone tell me how to get rid of the giant gap below this notice - I cannot figure out how to do it - thanks!!

Forgot to post this on Saturday

So I completely forgot I was going to do this once I got home, but I thought it would be fun to post a "cat playlist" - basically the songs that the cats seemed to calm down to while driving to the vet (it is a 30 minute drive). Since we go all the time, it is a fun recurring thing I can do. I usually will have my iPod or Zune for the drive (I don't use them on short drives). Through this you will also learn my odd taste in music - which I suppose could be a bad thing for me. You will see that the list is not too long this time - because I tried a lot of songs.

So, on Saturday, our reviewer was Kirzon. Kirzon is a 12 (almost 13) year old male who likes nip and naps. He is a quiet meower, and so it was hard to tell sometimes what his opinion was. But there was a bit of a pattern - loud beat, male voice.

He liked (aka, he calmed down and stopped meowing about the ride):

867-5309/Jenny - Tommy Tutone
If You Want Blood - AC/DC
Cherub Rock - Smashing Pumpkins
Bullet with Butterfly Wings - Smashing Pumpkins (he knows his Chicago bands apparently)

He did not like (aka - he meowed and complained about the ride):
Cherry Lips - Garbage
Tainted Love - Marilyn Manson (this surprised me)
Sadeness Part 1 - Enigma
Roads - Portishead
and a bunch of others.

I was expecting the slow, calm, soothing songs to be the ones that he liked but it was the other kind - when I talked about it at the vet they mentioned it could be because it blocks the road noise (I have a Mini - they are bumpy and loud compared to Brad's truck, which is smoother and quieter).

I know we used to listen to The Matt Dahl Show when it was on the radio (I should download the podcasts) and he seemed to like those - they are conversational and they are male voices, which I think are more soothing because they are deeper.

Wednesday will be interesting - Barney hates the car more than any of the cats. So if I find something he likes I will be happy.

So do any of you have favorites when you go to the vet? Anything that helps to keep things calm in the car? If so, please let me know in the comments - I am very curious to know.

Very Interesting! We are usually always calm in the car (except when we pull into the parking lot of the vet) but we do listen to moms all country ipod.

Interesting, I have never tried music with my lot. Prehaps I should do.

Having been a Girl Scout leader for 33 years, I learned to sing silly nonsense songs with the girls. When We has Illyana, she hated the car and was not just meowing, but yowling in the car. I started making up silly songs that were slow and soft singing about her. That calmed her down. Her new Mom discovered that hemming the same tune softly helped her calm down when it came time to clip claws or do the Revolution. Nothing calms Angel in the car or at the vets. She turns into a quaking nervous wreck!

Hmmm, maybe a little bit of The Doors. Some Zeppelin? Pandora gets all nutty when our dad listens to heavy metal (IE: Meshuggah, Mastodon, and that stuff). Mom doesn't really like his music, she likes old metal like Pantera, Judas Priest, iron maiden, etc... But some classic rock should keep him calm

That's actually a really really neat finding! I never thought of something like that.
Although, Melvin doesn't really complain in the car, so maybe he just likes all music!
Looks like Kirzon has some pretty good taste in music!

"Music hath charms to soothe the savage beast", so they say. It's good that you found some that worked on Kirzon. The only Good Cat who protests loudly when we drive him to the v*t is Nicky, and he drowns out any music more quiet than Quiet Riot.
