Last night I was giving Floyd his food/medicine, and I noticed his tail was all matted in one section - I touched it and it was all sticky, like he had dipped that section in caramel (it wasn't anything nasty like poop at least). I tried to wash it out and it wasn't working so I decided to comb it out - and it came right out, along with a HUGE clump of hair. Now Floyd has a giant bald spot on his beautiful tail. I stopped combing and went back to trying to wash it out, but I think it is still a bit in there, and now he has a new huge bald spot. He didn't even notice when it came out, but he has lost a lot of fur since he has been sick. My guess is that is why it came out so easily but I just feel horrible about it. I seriously just wanted to cry, and still do. He is going through so much as it is with his medicine every night and now this - it just sucks. Plus this morning he wasn't feeling great again and didn't eat much - it may be time to switch the food up a bit, since he likes a lot of variety. If he doesn't seem like he feels better by tomorrow I may see if I can bump his vet visit up to this Saturday - he is really supposed to go the 18th but I will see how it goes. He was not great on Sunday, then better Monday, although someone barfed at some point Monday - there was some fur in it, so that could be an issue, and I didn't see who it was so I can't tell. He ate a bunch last night, but this morning was not interested. He did a little mini-barf this morning but hadn't eaten so I am not sure what the deal is - I have noticed sometimes he will barf if he doesn't eat but then will eat right after and be fine - almost like the lack of food is making him barf, which makes no sense. If he does have an upset tummy hopefully he will feel better later and eat tonight. Again, if he doesn't I may be calling to schedule an appointment for Saturday (if they are open - Easter is the next day). I will keep you posted.
The good news is that at least the fur will grow back, and it didn't seem to hurt him when it came out. He was much more upset when I was trying to wash it off in the sink (he is always a bit irked by brushing on his back end - and he barely made a grumble - and that was when I moved his butt where I could reach him better). I just can't seem to stop thinking about it, but I guess I have to because otherwise I will start crying here at work. I just had to get it out.
