Hi Everyone! So I didn't get to do the visiting I had hoped this week - I hate that because visiting everyone always makes me happy. But that is how it goes sometimes!
Anyway, Kirzon went to see the vet today because he has been rubbing his mouth a lot again and also because he is loosing some fur clumps. The ride up was ok - he isn't too much of a complainer in the car - unlike the rest of the cats.
I also thought he felt like he had lost weight, and when they weighed him he had - about a pound and a half since March, which is a lot. The vet checked him out and his gums were not as red as they have been but he could see that they were starting to get an infection He also took some blood that we should have the results on Monday. There is the posibility it is hyperthyroidism, which would explain the weight loss and the fur loss too. So he got an antibiotic shot for is mouth, and once we find out his test results on Monday we will go from there. If it is hyperthyroidism he could do meds or the iodine thing, so hopefully it is that simple. Both my cats growing up had hyperthyroidism and once they were on meds they did really well. The very good news is that it can be compounded into a transdermal ear gel, which with Kirzon is very important, since he is awful with both pills and liquids. And then they can also do an antibiotic for his mouth too - but they wanted to wait to see what the tests say. And that way I would only need to go to the pharmacy once - lucky for me the copounding pharacy isn't too far.
Anyway that is the Kirzon update for now. I will have more on Monday. Have a great weekend everyone!

My baby has hyperthyroidism and that gel is a God send. I could never medicate her otherwise.
Here's hoping it's simple and my fingers and her paws are crossed.

Lots of purrs for Kirzon! Annie had hyper-t, and we used the transdermal gel for her. It's just a matter of starting at a very low dose and slowly increasing, if this is what Kirzon has. Paws crossed for him!
