UNDER CONSTRUCTION!

Since it has been quite a long time since we have been active, we are going to be Under Construction for a while - trying new fonts, designs, and updating our sidebar stuff. Hopefully we will get it how we like it soon so it won't change too much!

Also - Can someone tell me how to get rid of the giant gap below this notice - I cannot figure out how to do it - thanks!!

We missed Meow Like a Pirate Day! And advice needed! And now some purrs and prayers needed too.

EDIT - I am adding this after posting - I got an email from my aunt and their dog Abby is hurt and could use some purrs and woofs! Here is what she said:

I know you are all animal lovers and wanted to ask - Can everyone say a
little prayer for our dog Abby? She had hurt herself probably jumping off
furniture (they get crazy when they hear dogs outside) and I had her to the
vets a twice last Monday. She's had shots and been on Prednizone and
Tramodol for pain and we've been keeping her confined when we're gone, and
she was doing much better till yesterday. This morning she was really stiff
again and whimpering when I'd pick her up so Ric took her back to the vet
and left her for the day. They think she may need to see a specialist and
maybe have surgery depending on what's wrong. I feel so badly for her.

Here is a picture of Abby.

I had planned to do a cute post, and to try to make some pirate blingees, but honestly I was so tired I just didn't get the chance - which is actually not a huge deal, since I don't really do good pirate talk anyway! So I hope everyone had fun at least - I can't wait to see the posts from everyone else!

Kirzon seems to be doing better - he is still pulling the fur out a little but I think the meds take a little while to kick in, and he doesn't look like he has pulled much out since the shot. The only reason I know he did it at all is that I saw him on Saturday night - I didn't see anything on Sunday, so hopefully it will stop completely.

So, now I need some advice - Stella and Gus keep climbing up on the railing in the hallway upstairs - and that is very high up. I don't know what to do to stop them - I am very afraid they will fall. Stella was up there this morning, and Brad caught them both up there last night. Does anyone have any ideas how to stop them? This isn't something I can spray them with the water squirter or do anything that scares them because then they could fall, and we don't really have a way to blog it off because it would need to be something that goes high and that they can't climb. Any suggstions would really be apprecaited. The railing is very thin and today it looked like Stella was going to try to turn around, which with the thin railing seems like it would be a very bad thing.

I will try to get some more pictures up later - hopefully not of Stella on the railing - I swear it give me a near heart attack every time! Have a great week everyone!

We don't have any advice for the railing jumping. Our cats do it too and walk the length of the loft.

We will purr hard for sweet Abby. We don't have much advice on the climbing kitties because we don't have super high railing in our house.

Lots of purrs and healing Light to Abby!

About the railing...Maybe ask Milo and Alfie's mum, as they've been known to get on their HIGH one too, as has Pierro at Pierro and Miles' blog. Good luck!

We will purr vewy vewy hard for sweet Abby!!

Milo and Alfie xx

The mom speaks: Alfie used to frighten me half to death doing just the same thing as Gus and Stella. I spoke in a STERN voice everytime I saw him and I could tell he knew it was norty. He didn't stop though ~ and eventually he learned to negotiate it safely.
I still don't like him doing it ~ and still use the STERN voice and he just looks at me all innocent ... and ignores me.

So I'm not sure what to suggest 'cos I was hopeless at prevention!

HUGE purrs for Abby!

How about something sticky side up on the railing? That might discourage your two aerialists.

try some industrial double-sided tapes, my mommeh says. or wraps the railing in tin foil. me and BA does not mind tin foils, but we has heard many kittehs hates it.

Hi Amy....cats hate the smell of lemon...or so I've been told. Maybe you could spray the railing with something lemon scented. The also do not like the feel/sound of aluminum foil. Maybe you could place some foil on the rails....Madi HATES foil. When we first brought her home she thought she was a mountain lion....good luck and best wishes to Abby.

We're sending lots of purrs and crossing our paws for Abby!

We don't have any advice for the railing but now our mommy is all nervous! We have a banister above our stairs but as far as we let our mommy know, we never got on it but it's the one thing she worries about. She even worries when sees those high railings in houses on House Hunters. She's a worry wart.

Purrs to Kirzon too!

Big purrayers going out to sweet Abby!

Amy, I wish I had some advice, but I've got a high wire artist of my own - Miss Bitty. I call her the railing dancer. The upstairs (high up) railing is rounded and narrow and she prances all over, turning on a dime. Scares me to death, but she hasn't so much as wobbled yet.

Good luck!

Purrs here for Abby!

Our mum also suggests double sided sticky tape or tin foil - that's what she uses to discourage us from scratching at or getting on things we shouldn't.

My mom person says maybe there is a spray that you can put on the railing that the cats won't like the smell of.

Oh man! What a bad week!

Your info about the little dog wasn't very detailed, but if she doesn't have a broken bone, you could use heat treatment to soothe bruised, torn muscles. Easiest thing is a hot towel over the sore bit and sit with her till it cools. She did have xrays, right? If the bone wasn't broken, try another xray to look for a cracked bone. Knocking her out will be the thing to do though because a slight tremble obscures the xray picture. We know this from experience with our silly kitties!

As for your high wire kitties, we don't know. Maybe cushions underneath in case they do fall?

Purring for you all.

We're sending many purrs and good thoughts to Abby! Hope she is OK - please keep us updated.

Re the railing - maybe wrap in contact paper with the sticky side out? Also, wrapping it in chicken wire might help too (some people grow catnip right through chicken wire to stop cats from destroying the plant.) NOTE - we have not tried either of these - we don't have a similar feature in our house (which is a good thing!), but we know cats do not like them.

I will most definitely be thinking good brindle thoughts for sweet little Abby. I hope she's okay.

Abouts the railing - my mom thought you might try this thing called sticky paws. Have you ever heard of it? It's kinda like double-sided tape but it won't ruin your banister and it's super easy to remove. Mom has used it to keep my sister Abby from scratching on the furniture and it's terrific! She found it at Petsmart, if you wanna check it out.

PeeS. I just wanna thank you for your sweet comment on my bloggie today. And yes, of course that's what I meant abouts people not wanting to adopt doggies that look like me. BOL!

miss amy,
me and asa and mama are sending our bestest healy vibes to miss abby to feel the betterment and not need surgery!
mama says she wishes she could help with the stair railing issue, but she has not had a kitty before, so she's not sure what you could do. but she likes the idea of putting something sticky on the railing. maybe fly paper or somethingie like that?
glad kirzon is feelin' better and not pullin' out his furs as much!

We are purring for poor Abby! We hope she's going to be ok and doesn't need a surgery.

Mummy is getting quite worried about your railings as we have those here too now! Mummy says: At the moment, they are not climbing onto the railing, but ours have enough space on the other side of the railing for the cats to stand (as if a platform for jumping!). At the moment we have a dining table underneath the staircase that hopefully won't be too far down for them if they fall.

The lemon spray mentioned by Madi might do the trick! I've tried foil to deter them from other things before but our cats don't mind it so it didn't work...

Hope you find a good solution!!!
Purrrs,
