Hi everyone, I got the following email from my aunt - if you know of anyone who can help, or if you can pass the info along that would be great. I don't know all the details and have asked her to send more (like location, contact info, etc.) My aunt is in the Chicago suburbs so I am assuming they are in the area.
Would anyone know of someone who may like an 8 year old female Lab? A
friend who's had her since she was a puppy has a little girl almost 1, and
on the 4th with all the fireworks the dog freaked out and snapped at his
little girl, so he's looking for a new home without kids for her. Otherwise
she's been a really good dog all these years. He is trying PAWS but doesn't
know if they have room, and he's also willing to drive quite far to take her
to a new home. He's afraid he may have to put her to sleep if a shelter
can't take her.
UPDATE:
Here is an update from Bailey's owner:
We have had Bailey (female chocolate lab 64 lbs) since she was 10 weeks old. She is now almost 8 years old now.
She has really been a fantastic dog and companion to us all this time. We are very very upset about what happened and what the future has in store for bailey.
Saturday night July 3rd we gave bailey a sedative to help her sleep with the fireworks in our area (we live in the city). Sunday morning July 4th, I walked the dog and our 11 month old baby. 8 am the baby was crawling on the floor and went over to the dog. The dog literally just snapped at her and it was over in an instant. Baby Grace will make a full recovery but we feel like we need to find Bailey a new home.
I am willing to drive the dog to any town or city in the USA (coast to coast) to get her a new happy home. I really honestly think that bailey has another good few years of joy left in her life that she could share with the correct person or couple. I do think a home without young children would be best.
Any advice would really help. I am meeting my Vet on Thursday evening at 6pm to see if they know of any options and to also get Bailey a full physical
Thanks a lot and PLEAASE call or email me if you need any additional info.

I do have a phone number and another email - I just didn't want to post them because you know how those internet bots can be sometimes. If you can help Bailey out please contact them asap!!
Also, I just heard from Khyra that there is a missing doggie - he is on the east coast where it is really hot - if you are in the area and spot him let them know - the info is in his poster below.

Regarding Bailey the chocolate lab:
Bailey currently lives in the city of Chicago but I am more than willing to driver her anywhere in the United States to get her a new home. She really is a special dog and still has lots of years of love to share with the right person.
Please contact me at alijono@mac.com for more details or any suggestions.
Thanks
Oh how sad for both dogs! We hope Bailey gets a new home and Rudy gets found! We're sending huge purrs their way!!!
I will try to put out some feelers. This is heartbreaking. I am sure the family feels terrible too. It's hard with little ones.
omd, i hope bailey gets a good and loving home soon and i hope little smushy face gets a found. thanks for sharing kittehs~!!

I feel so bad for both dogs. I hope someone will give her the home she deserves. And I hope the other one is safe and not hurt or scared!
Poor Bailey. Can they maybe contact a lab rescue that might be able to assist?
Oh no, not another lost doggie. :(
Now those humans I get. They did NOT give up on their dog. They are still taking her to the vet and looking for options. I understand them completely. I wish I could tell them how to fix it, but deep down I can't help but feel that the tranquilizers may have had a lot to do with this.

Poor Bailey. :-(
Fireworks and pets really do not mix - oh dear. Poor Bailey. I hope the little girl is ok now too. This really is very sad. I hope Bailey finds a new loving home asap.
And I hope that missing doggie is found. Fingers and everything crossed.
take care

Oh that is just so sad about Bailey and totally not her fault.
I expect it was the sedatives wearing off but I do so understand the concern.
I hope and pray they find her a good home.
madi and Mom
I will cross post on FB with Khyra and hope that someone in that very generous world will give her a safe and loving home. Poor Rudy, he must be so scared and uncomfortable in the heat they are having there...I hope he is found and returned home soon...paws crossed for both!
Bailey the Chicago 8 year old female lab is very happy to have baby Grace home. We have a possible answer to what mat have caused our dogs outbrst. She had just had a Acepromazine pill the evening before the incident to calm her during the July 3rd fireworks. Supposedly Acepromazine elevates the chances of dog agression!!!! (we probably should have known the side effects but we didnt and we will have to live with that forever)
That all said we still BADLY need to find a amazing home for Bailey. Once again i am willing to drive Bailey to any home in America. She really is an awesome friend and companion and i would love some lucky person to enjoy her as much as we have the past 8 years.
Please if you know of anyone anywhere please email us at alijono@mac.com Thanks.
We will purr hard dat somebuddy can helps tha woofie git a noo home.
Purrrrrrrrrrrs,
Sanjee and tha resta tha Hotties
Sad stories; we hope Bailey finds a loving home and Rudy is found, both asap...Best of luck to them, we've got our paws crossed for those sweet babies...xo...Calle, Halle, Sukki
oh noes. :( i am hoping that miss bailey finds a wonderful new home very soon and that rudy is found ASAP.
*woof*
the booker man
Well at least they are trying to rehome her, but it seems a shame they are going to give her up especially when they know the medication was probably to blame. We hope she finds a home and we hopes the lost doggie is found soon.
Personally in my opinion, it sounds like the fireworks scared the dog and it would have done that to any person. That said, I would have them contact Midwest Labrador Retriever Rescue. http://www.midwestlabrescue.org/ They are located in Chicago directly.

Poor doggies! We hope that Baily finds a new home in a quiet area! And someone find that smooshy-face puppy fast!
We are sad because it could be because of the sedative. We think the dog shouldn't be given away because of that. The meds probably made her feel zonked out and not herself. So you can't really blame the dog because there was something else going on.
either way i hope the dog finds a home that will love her
Frankly, one, little nip when a dog is on medication doesn't merit finding it a new home. If that family loved their dog as much as they say they wouldn't be sending it away for one incident. This story makes me sad and also affirms the fact that some people can be so dumb.
