UNDER CONSTRUCTION!

Since it has been quite a long time since we have been active, we are going to be Under Construction for a while - trying new fonts, designs, and updating our sidebar stuff. Hopefully we will get it how we like it soon so it won't change too much!

Also - Can someone tell me how to get rid of the giant gap below this notice - I cannot figure out how to do it - thanks!!

All About Your People Day

Hi Everyone! This is the kitties - all of us together - and we just met a new friend yesterday - Oskar! He is a cool doggie who came up with a cool idea - All About Your People Day! So we decided to write about our mom - we know she has talked about herself before so we wanted to tell you some new stuff. Of course, we know there should be pictures of her, but we don't really have any handy (she hates having her picture taken - ooh, that is one thing you may not have known!)

So, first the basics - our mom is 38, and on 11/11/11 she will turn 40. She has brown hair and brown eyes and is very tall - at least to us she seems that way! She is an only child and her mom and dad went to the bridge a long time ago - most of us never met them. But her aunt, uncle and cousin live near by, and so do our dad's parents, so it is ok.

Mom is technically still in school - but not taking classes. It took her like forever to figure out what she wanted to study. She does have an associates degree, which she got taking photography classes back in the dark ages when digital cameras were just starting to come out. She learned to develop black and white pictures (we think that is probably pictures of tuxie cats) when she was little because her dad was an awesome photographer. She has a bunch of cameras - most of them are Nikon's but she has one that is a Calumet 4x5 camera - that means the negatives are 4" x 5" big - per negative. She said that is big.

Mom likes to read but she doesn't do it often - she has this thing called convergence insufficiency which means her eyes don't meet right, so if she reads for a long time it makes her queasy, like getting car sick. She also has narcolepsy, though fairly mild, and even with medicine she is still tired all the time - she has done three different sleep studies - Kirzon and Lola remember those because she was gone over night and they didn't like that at all.

Our mom has always wanted to help out animals, especially kitties and doggies. If she won the lottery she would open a shelter to take care of them - we think that is so great. We hope she wins so she can do it!

If mom could have any job in the world, other than helping animals (which she doesn't think of as a job really 0 it is more a way of life thing) she would either be a housewife, like in the 50's with the pearls and dresses, because she is a homebody, or she would make jewelry. It is her hobby now and she keeps wanting to start an etsy store - she just hasn't done it yet. She is terrible about keeping up with email - she has some unread stuff in her gmail that is like months old - she wants to get to it but if it is down far she just forgets and then finds it later - so she need to be more organized.

Mom is really handy - we have lots of furniture from Ikea and she is the one that puts it all together - she even put in the cabinets in our bathroom. She loves Ikea and it is close to our house, so it is convenient. She is also a big nerd - she even creates all her blog posts in the "edit html" mode on here because she took an html class in college.

Mom also loves to cook, and also likes to watch cooking shows. But mom is not a fan of germs, so when we have people over mom does the cooking and getting ready but dad has to do all the dish clearing and cleaning of the stuff. It works out good though - mom's part is usually the hard one!! The funny thing is that our germs don't bug her. She has no problem cleaning our litter boxes or cleaning up if we barf.

Hmm, what else can we tell you about our mom - she likes to watch TV and if she isn't watching cooking shows she likes funny shows or design shows. She is a big fan of that show Wipeout and would love to try it - if it wasn't televised and no one would see her, because she knows it would not turn out well! And mom has weird taste in music. She likes classical, rock, pop, rap, some new agey stuff and has come to like one song that is considered country.

Well, those are some things about our mom - she loves us lots but we are sure you figured that out already. And we love her lots too and are super glad that she is our mom!!

If you would like to talk about your mom and dad (or whoever you live with who takes care of you) feel free to join in - you should head over to Oskar's blog and check out the rules - and you can also post a link to your post too. Plus he is cool so you should go meet him anyway!

Oh, I think your mom is Most Interesting! I'm not in the least surprised that she likes taking pictures cuz all the pictures of you guys are so good! (Of course, she has Most Terrific subjects - but that goes without saying.) It sounds like she's pretty handy to have arounds the house with all that cool stuff she can do. I just wish she liked to have pictures taken. With that lovely heart of hers, I bet she's lovely on the outside, too!

How nice to learn about your Mom. Ikea is a great store, we wish we had one near us. They have the best products and all their furniture is so easy to put together because their instructions really make sense.

Our Mom wishes she could take better photos, she has a lot to learn in that dept.

Have a great weekend.

What a fun post!

Our Mommy used to work with a guy who had narcolepsy, though your Mom's sounds much milder.

Your Mom has a cool 40th birthdate! We think something portentious will happen...maybe that's the day to play that lottery ticket! And start that cat farm...oh wait, that's already happened...MOL!

We'll stop over and visit Oskar's blog...

Awwwww hello to your mum!! It's great meeting her, thank you House of Cats for such a fun and entertaining read about your mum. Me and Charlie knew about she's a talented maker of jewellry but we didn't know about the photography and developing them from scratch! Oh and what a clever mum to be able to use the edit html mode to create blog posts! Wow! Oh and she's also a chef!! Brilliant!

On my way to work I spotted a lovely woman all dressed in what I consider 1950's clothes. She had a lovely white dress with red polka dots, tight at the top, flowy and big at the bottom all flared out with petticoats and a bright sash around the waist. She also wore shoes that matched her dress (polka dot heels!) and had her hair in a cute pony tail. Oh yes, she also wore a lovely pearl necklace and matching earings. Her make up was perfect too. I thought she looked amazing!!

I could see your mum now looking like that - that's just lovely!

I also know that your mum has a big generous and kind heart and loves animals. :-)

Thank you for such a wonderful blog piece about your mum.

Take care
x

Amy - what a great post! It's lovely to get to know you a bit more from this. You are a very well-rounded and interesting person! (I like many of your interests)Sorry to learn of the queesy-after-reading issue. And what a beautiful thing that taking care of the kitties is not a job. I was just thinking today that it's important for me to actually express GRATITUDE for the priviledge of taking care of these dear little critters. Thanks for this post!

For other folks (all kitties and doggies are people to me) reading this, check out my blog. It has stories and information helpful for cat caretakers everywhere.

All you sweet pets, stay well!

We loved learning more about your mom!!! She is a lot like our mom is some ways. Our mom loves photography, helping animals and Ikea furniture. We don't have any because there are no stores nearby. Mom has seen the catalogs and loves the designs. Our mom jokes that her dreams job would be a stay at home cat mom!

Our mom hates having her photo taken, is very tall, will be 43 on 11/22 (darn scorpios!) brown hair, only child, photography classes just when digital was coming out, learned to develop in own darkroom, dad too a photographer/reporter, Nikon freak for film, loves to read but no time, love animals and helpin, really handy, but hate Ikea Ha ha. Strange, huh? But you suffer from narcolepsy? Wow. No idea what that's like...
