Hi Everyone - it is still crazy here - work has gotten very busy with end of fiscal year happening this month, so that means weekends are crazier too! I have so much to catch up on at home, so like I said, it will be harder to visit. But I am visiting - I just may be doing it through my reader, which is quicker.
So, we went to the vet yesterday - Barney in the slightly smaller carrier and Kirzon in the bigger one. That was our fist mistake. Barney is such a spaz in the car that the bigger (and heftier) one would have been better. He literally yelled the whole drive. We tried various music types and the harp music did calm him a bit, but not a lot. Kirzon was probably very annoyed. I decided to switch them around when we got to the vets.
At the vets I decided to let them both out in the exam room. Kirzon always likes to explore in there, and he loves to "hide" behind the sink. Barney thought that was a good idea and followed him up. Both were very good boys. Barney went first, and his eyes were very red, but not very goopy. His bald spot below his eye was already getting better (I have been putting the eye goo - Neo Poly Bac, which for him works better with the red/non-goopy issue - there too because I knew it would help and was safe to use near his eyes. He also looked at his throat, which he had scratched off the fur on (usually he does it to his chin, but this time it was lower on his throat). He also took a look at his belly where he is over grooming. He said to try an antihystamine for his itchyness (though it may not help the over grooming, it should help the chin scratching, because those do seem to be different issues) and it would also help with his eyes (they got much worse at the same time a lot of humans allergies got worse). Also they got in a better version of the Neo-Poly-Bac called Neo-Poly-Bac Hydro, which has an added steriod which will help more with the redness. Then it was Kirzon's turn. He had been hiding behind the sink, so I brought him out. While he got checked Barney kept trying to get in on it - like he was jealous! It was very cute though. I think it actually helped Kirzon stay a little calmer, because Barney was rubbing heads with him a little. Kirzon is doing great and his gums and mouth look wonderful. So he is off the antibiotics for now - I will be keeping an eye on him, but this means his tummy will get a break. Oh, I forgot to mention - Barney was over 11 lbs (I think - it may just be 11 - I really cant' remember the exact amount), and Kirzon is just under 10, which means he has put on a little weight already. I was happy to heat that because I was afraid he had lost. The good thing is that if we need it I do still have one bottle of the antibiotics - unmixed - that is left, so we have it if necessary.
I switched up the carriers for the trip home, so it was much smoother. Almost no yelling from Barney until we got close to home - I am pretty sure he knew we were almost there. And we got some of the treats that the cats like, which was awesome.
Barney gets half a tablet of the antihystamine once a day, and since I want to try and do it the same time every day, I started it at night, because it is easier to do during the work week at night. He took it fine in a pill pocket - I am so glad because Floyd never fell for the pill pockets. He has had 3 doses of the new eye goo so far and he really is already looking better. Luckily he doesn't fight the eye stuff, because he has had it on and off for his whole life. The bald spot below his eye is much better already too - not pink anymore. So this stuff works very well, and I am so glad about that.
Oh, and I know I promised pics, which I still don't have. Partly because Barney wants to hold off until his bald spot fills in a bit, which should be soon because he is not rubbing it anymore (well, no more then normal at least).
Other than that there isn't too much going on with the others. Tomorrow is Lola's birthday, and I will be doing a post for that. Virgil is just hanging out - he is totally mellow most of the time. They have been sitting in the front windows more - I think there is a bird building a nest in the little birdhouse outside. It hasn't really been sunny here - we have a plant inside that isn't doing well, so I set up a grow light on it (it will come back - it used to live at my parents house, and it grew up with the cats I grew up with, then when my dad died it was in the house without care for a while, looked like it was dying, but came back) and Virgil has been sleeping up by the plant (it is on the first landing on the stairwell) and I thinkj it is because he likes the grow light - it is like the sun I guess.
So that is my update for now - I will be visiting as much as I can til after the 1st, after that I will be able to get better caught up because it will be the new fiscal year. I will still be posting but pics will be harder because I have so much going on and when I get home I am so tired. But I will get as many as I can!!

Glad to hear the boys were ok and the vet visit is over; hope those pills help Barney feel better...xo...Calle, Halle, Sukki
We hope the new meds do the trick!
We know all about yelling all the way to the vet. It's Yuu-Chan's specialty!
Well that was a great update, glad the family is doing okay. Sounds like the vet visit went pretty smooth, that's always a good thing.
It's great to hear that things are getting better with Kirzon. Shadow hates car rides too.. even though we put him in the biggest carrier he cried through the whole trip and he made Flip nervous too. Flip doesn't usually make a peep in the car, but he is a very caring cat and whenever he hears the other two cry for any reason, he will be very concerned. Jackie is the calm one.
Hope Barney's eye gets better everyday. Shadow had eye problem when we got him and the gooey stuff just would not go away, so we took him to the vet and got some antibiotic oral drug. Very soon the eye problem went away.
We will be here tomorrow for Lola's birthday :).
Take care. Don't over work yourself. Have a wonderful day!
Oh Amy and the House of Cats
I am so, so, so glad to hear the Barney and Kirzon are doing much better now. The trip to the vets had me smiling! Bless their little furry hearts!
Good luck with Barney's eye medication and antihistamines - so glad to hear that the bald patch is healing and his eye is looking better and hopefully Kirzon will now be able to put on more weight! Yay!
I look forward to Lola's birthday! You always know how to throw a fabulous party!!
I hope your plant gets better too! And it's sweet to know that you have a bird nesting in your garden! It means Spring is definitely here! Double yay!
Take care

Thanks for the update and so glad its a good one.. Hope the pills do the trick.. Hugs GJ xx
Tell Barney not to be so vain... we love him bald spot and all. ;-) Glad the vet visit went well.
Take care of yourself and get plenty of rest. Fiscal year end is the pits! Gaaaah... when I worked for companies where calendar year end was fiscal year end, too, 'twas double pits, so I guess we should count our blessings.
We are glad Barney and Kirzon are both doing well. I, Flynn, hate going in the car too. I yowl all the way. Eric folds his arms and tells me to keep quiet because he wants to nap.
I'm glad the boys are improving! Hopefully everything will go away with the allergies. Glad you told us the progress report.
We hate the V-E-T, and we throw a fit each and every time we have to go! That's the way it should be, right? Hee Hee!
Glad every thing went well at the vet. Post when you can.
Nice to see the boys made the best of their visit!
Paws khrossed fur khontinuing improvement!

Good vet visit is always a great thing. Does Barney like the chicken pill pockets? If so, buy the dog size. There is about 4 times as much in the dog package than the cat package. For the SAME price. Just a tip my vet gave me.
Glad the vet visit went well and hope the new meds work for Barney! Angel has been excessively grooming and the vet did nothing other than say it's probably fleas - which it's not cause Sadie is the only one who goes out and she has no fleas. Is the antihistimine a prescription or something over the counter?
Yay! So glad to hear the vet visit went well. We hope the meds do the trick. :)
Goodness you do sound busy giving pills and rubbing stuff under eyes. But bet the kitties like feeling better. Also bet their vet visit is over too.

So glad to learn they are improving. I was especially moved by Barney being jealous for the attention at the vet. My cat Panther gets jealous very easily - probably allot like Barney.
I commend you for loving your kitties so well when you are stressed with so much work. God Bless you!
For other folks reading this, (kitties and doggies are people) my blog has stories and information helpful for cat caretakers everywhere.
All you kitties stay well!
